B is for Belonging

*belonging*  {143/365}

I was adopted as a child. My parents have always been open about that fact. They pretty much had to, as there is no way they could have passed me off as their own. If you saw me with my family, you would see that I do not really "fit in." My parents (and family) are of Mexican decent and I am so not. All my life I was the white child with the Mexican last name. The only person in my family with blue eyes, white skin and light colored hair.

My family has never treated me any differently.

I know my family loves me.

My family means everything to me.

  5. Very nice to feel so loved. Long ago I did research for others with regard to their family trees. I spend months working really hard doing data entry of boxes of notes left by someone else in this family. I scanned hundreds of pictures. Almost the last paper I found was proof the person who had hired me to trace his tree had in fact, been adopted. I was unsure if he knew it, as he never mentioned it. I wondered if he would be upset when I told him, and I wondered if he thought maybe that was the case and that was the reason he hired me. I was very nervous about telling me. He, like you, felt so much a part of the family he hadn't thought to tell me. His mother had all these little notes, even on napkins and he just wanted things put in order to honor his mother who was now gone.

  15. @Sandy - Your research of family trees sounds really interesting. I bet a lot of secrets are discovered this way. I can totally understand the feeling of knowing that someone is adopted and not knowing if they know. There is someone that I know that is adopted and the family never told them. It feels weird knowing this kind of information about someone when you know that they don't know.
