Elf Owls are not only the smallest owl in the Sonoran Desert, they are the smallest owl in the world. They are about the size of a sparrow, 5 inches tall. Their wingspan is 9 inches and it weighs 1 to 1.5 ounces. When captured, they will play dead until all danger has passed.
