Christmas present #2 completed

I am not really happy with it but I am sure it will grow one me. It does NOT look like the picture in the book and I am bummed about it. It is pretty much done, except for sewing a snap on and cleaning up some of the ends. I have now started on Christmas present #3 which is just another one of these purses/Game Boy holders but with different colors. I don't have a digital so this is just a scan of the completed purse. I plan to take photos as soon as I am completely finished.

A Boring Saturday Update

I usually don't post much on the weekends. I guess it is because I spend 40 hours a week on the computer at work and at home, I just don't want to be around it. However, I cannot seem to help myself and always turn the darn thing on so I can read email and do some surfing. I never used to really surf until I started reading other blogs so it is still somewhat new to me. I usually stick to the same old sites.

I am almost finished with the purse/Game Boy carrier that I am making one of my nieces. I just have to sew on the strap and it will be complete. I am not thinking it is the best but it will do. I sewed the pocket on the back and made sure everything was lined up just right but it still is crooked. Then after stitching around the entire project, I realized I used the wrong color. Oh well it still looks okay and I decided not to redo it. I will just make sure that when I start on the 2nd one of these that I do it the correct way. I can tell you that my finished project will look nothing like the photo in the pattern book.

I am trying to decide what I want to do this late in the afternoon. B is making a fancy dinner for us for Halloween tomorrow so we will be going to the store but I am trying to find something to do (other than cleaning) in the mean time. I am out of ink in my printer (except for blue) so I cannot print anything on my scrapbook pages. I guess I could work on the crochet purse but I am just not in the mood for that right now. Maybe I should just go and dye my hair. Oh well….enough boring ramblings for now.

Glad to see my Weather Pixie is getting in the Halloween mood.

Where are you from?

Today I am the only one working (out of 5 of us). Two people are on vacation, one on maternity leave and the other has the day off. I am looking forward to my day off tomorrow as I think I am coming down with something. It is not fun to have tons of work to do when I am not feeling well enough to do it.

I have been wanting to post a guest map for awhile. I think it would be neat to see where people that visit my blog live. So please put yourself on the map and make my day. *Ü*

Pattern Problems - Need Help!

I was taught to crochet by my grandmother. She only taught me the basic single and double crochet but when I was younger it was enough for me. My grandmother never used a pattern in her life, she did not know how to read one. She would make beautiful things and would sell them out of her house. When I got older I wanted to make beautiful things but since I had no idea on how to do anything fancy and since I could not read any patterns I decided I needed to learn. By this time my grandmother could not remember how to crochet so I taught myself. I feel that I do pretty well and even when some patterns call for weird stitches I can always figure them out. That is until last night. I am working on a pattern and I have no idea if I am doing it right. I have no one to ask either and that is sad. I am hoping if I post the question to my blog that someone might be able to assist me. It is kind of hard to explain without photos though but I will try my best.

Here are the steps for this stitch:

Sc2tog = (draw up a loop in next sc) twice. Yoh and draw through 3 loops on hook.

Now I used this stitch on another pattern and I think I did it right because the project turned out okay. It was used to make a heart and the final result looked like a heart so something had to be right. However what I am using it on now just does not look right. The instructions that I followed for the heart are slightly different than the main instructions I posted above.

"Draw up a loop in each of first 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - sc2tog made"

This is how I do this stitch. I insert the hook thru the first sc stitch thru the front (both loops) then insert the hook again thru the front of the next sc (both loops). I then put the yarn over the hook once and pull it thru all loops on the hook. This does not look bad until I get to the end of the row. According to the main directions I am to use this stitch but it is kind of tight when I need to turn at the end of a row. Am I supposed to ch 1 at the end? The directions do not say. Is it just a given to ch1 at the end?

Now that I am typing out the instructions I am wondering if the stitch goes in the same sc twice and not in the next 2 sc? Is that where I am going wrong?

Okay I am starting to ramble. I better go.

My next project

For the two older girls I decided to make a Game Boy holder. It could also be used as a mini purse if they liked. Here is the scan from the pattern book. I kind of like the kerchief too but the girls aren't too into hats and I think they would feel a kerchief was the same thing.

Last night I had about 45 min or so to start working on the first one. I need to make two. What I like about this particular pattern is that I do not have to count rows. I just need to keep crocheting rows until it is the length that I need it to be. I like this as I am not very good with gauging. I am again using Red Heart acrylic yarn. It is rolling oh so bad and I hope once I put it all together it will flatten out. Here is a very boring scan of very boring 7.5 inches of single crochet. *Ü*

One Christmas present down - tons more to go

On Saturday I started making a Christmas present for one of my nieces. I decided on making purses for the girls. This particular little one is 2 and likes hot pink.

I worked on it for 2 days. I think if I make one again it will only take me a few hours of one day. I spent so much time trying to get the gauge right that I think I spent more time on that then the actual making of the purse. All that I have left to do is weave in some ends but I will save that for later.

This was the closest I could find to hot pink in the very limited craft store I went to. I am using Red Heart Classic acrylic yarn. I was looking forward to using cotton but the store did not have any. I hate how my project rolls. Can anyone help me with the rolling? Is it the type of yarn that causes it to 'roll up'?

Below is a scan of the purse from the pattern book.

This is a scan of the purse that I made. The size is about 8.5 by 6 inches (maybe a little bigger)This is my first attempt at something other than a blanket or hat. I don't have a digital so the scanner will have to do.

Just an update....nothing much

Why is it that when more people read my blog I am more hesitant to write anything? Why does it bother me if they don't like it? It is my site darn it! LOL!

It is Monday. I did not post this past weekend as I was forced to work on my day off. It was for training so it was not too bad. Then when I planned to update I instead was distracted in trying to find patterns online so I could make Christmas presents. I decided to go with the tiny pattern book I bought so on Saturday I went out to buy yarn. My town is very pitiful when it comes to yarn. I had already been to Michael's and that is as usual a disappointment. Then I remembered that we had Ben Franklin's so I went there. They are always out of yarn and this time was not any different. I do not know why I did not remember that. They did not have the brand of yarn that I wanted so I just grabbed what looked pretty. The staff was not very helpful when I wanted it - but one lady butted in to tell me that I had the wrong yarn combinations in my hand (one was cotton the other acrylic). I had to explain I had multiple projects going on. I don' t think I convinced her though. I did mention to her that the supply was limited and she ignored me after that.

I did manage to finish one gift this weekend. I made one of my nieces a cute little purse. She is two so I am hoping she likes it. I mean it is always so easy to please the little ones but I still stress about it. I just need to weave in the ends and I am all set. I am worried that it will fall apart as she may want to stuff it full. I don't have a digital but I may try to scan it later when I am at home.

Well that is it for my boring update. Sorry it could not be more but work is icky today and I am off to yet another training class!

It's an egg! Not a fossilized avocado!

A co-worker of mine raises Emus. One of his Emus started to lay eggs this week and he brought egg #2 in to work. I think the eggs are very pretty – almost as if they were painted. They are a combination between hunter green and aqua. If the top layer is scraped off, it is blue underneath.

Rain, rain and more rain!

.....and it was cold!!!! I had a great post all typed up but Blogger deleted it and would not publish it. Darn that is sure getting irritating.

Well it started to rain late this afternoon. I live in the desert. I am not used to the cold and rain. I will now have to start wearing 'winter' clothes. Of course it may be back in the 80's or higher in a day or two. I had to take a snapshot of my Weather Pixie as this is the most clothes I have ever seen. This particular scene will be very few and far between.

LO: Coloring Eggs (an old layout)

Not what I planned to post today but it will do.

This is an old layout (I really need to do some new layouts).

I do not remember if I posted this layout on Scrapjazz or not but either way I am posting it here.

Layout is 2 pages (8.5 x 11)

  • Cardstock is Bazzill (gotta love that Bazzill!)
  • I exacto'd the word 'eggs' from cardstock
  • Accents, journal box and title are printed from Creative Keepsakes Creative Clips
  • Purple Magic Mesh

Thanks for looking.

Am I addicted to the Internet?

Do I really need to take a test for this? Actually it came out a bit lower than I thought since my job is 99% online and I do spend tons of time online while at home. I like to think that I have a healthy balance of internet and life away from the computer but if you were to ask my husband I do not think he would agree. Of course I will not bring up the fact that I stayed up WAY too late surfing blogs last night! (I don't know why the cool color bar is not showing up - bummer)

Blog is Halloween Ready

My Blog is now ready for Halloween. I hope you like the update.

LO: Natalie (an old layout)

Here is another old layout.

I had fun with this one and had it planned for awhile. It was quite easy since I used all pre-made embellishments. Who would have thought that yellow and black would look good on a baby layout? I would have to say that even though it is simple it is one of my favorite layouts. It may be also because I love these photos so darn much.

Thanks for looking.

Blog Explosion

Well let's see what this will do.

One way to procrastinate...

Here is a website I found today. Have fun trying to keep him on an even keel. I am not too good and so far have only been able to get him to go 51 meters although a good friend got up to 99.

Enjoy!

What color is your brain?

Me? I am Gold. I think it is kind of close. It is dead on for the family part.

At work or in school: I like set routines and organized ways of doing things rules and directions are a great help to me. I prefer to stay on one topic at a time. I need to know what is expected of me, and I always want to know if I am on the right track. I like subjects that are useful and traditional, such as business, accounting, history and government.
With friends: I prefer people who are careful with their money and who make plans ahead of time. I like my friends to be loyal, dependable and on time. I am serious about love and show it in many practical ways.
With family: I like stability and security and enjoy traditions and frequent celebrations. I like to spend holidays with family members, and I plan ahead for such gatherings.

Monday morning headache

I have not had any headaches in quite awhile. Then last night as soon as I put my head on my pillow I was hit with a headache. I waited a bit to see if it was real and since it never went away I took something last night. Needless to say I woke up with this same headache. The thing I hate the worst is waking up with a headache and on a Monday none the less. I took something before leaving for work and it is just getting worse. I took some more Advil while here at work and ate some breakfast but the end is not in sight. Not only does it hurt but I am very dizzy and lightheaded and it is extremely hard to concentrate. I am having problems typing and since I do email support I need to be able to type. This is not good. Work just started and I still have 10 hours to go.

10:05 AM - Well... headache is still with me but I must say it is not so bad. The bad parts just come and go in waves. So it is now more like a pounding headache combined with a small constant one. It is still hard to focus.

12:15PM - Still there. At least I was able to drive and run to the post office during my lunch hour. I am back to the icky-ness of earlier this morning. It doesn't help that I have to make 2 supervisor escalation callbacks as soon as lunch is over which will be in aprox. 10 min. I am crossing my fingers that I will be understandable when I call these customers. It is so hard to speak to customers when I cannot concentrate. At least I am noticing that it did not take 2 weeks to update my profile this last time around. LOL! Little things like that usually make my day. Not so today.

2:13 PM - Doing better. Had 2 cans of soda so far today and a couple of Advil sometime before lunch. It is still there but I am able to call and speak to customers. Luckily my first callback the customer was in a meeting and I will have to callback tomorrow. Now I am off to make my second callback. This one may take awhile. Sounds like this guy just wants to yell. I hate when the rep that causes the call to be escalated does not write anything in the case notes except the words 'Customer is upset'. Urgh!

Procrastinating

Why is it when I should be heading to bed I instead find myself drawn to the computer? All day today (Sunday) I did not go near the computer. I did not even turn it on. Then as I head upstairs to get ready for bed I tell myself I need to just download my email, not read it, just download it. That then turns into checking out my blog (hoping that maybe my profile will have updated - yeah right!) and creating a new post. Then I find myself looking at other blogs or websites. I walked upstairs an hour and 20 min. ago and here I sit in front of the computer. I can say I did one productive thing which was pack up an order but since that only entailed printing a mailing label and stuffing the box with packing peanuts it was not that big of a job. I guess I better head to bed. I am sure I will find something else I just have to do before I finally go to sleep.

LO: Family is a Work of Heart (an old layout)

Here is another old layout.

Cardstock is Bazzill
Patterned paper is from one of the Provo Craft Slabs
The title is Scriptina that I cut out using my exacto. I love how this font looks but it is hard to cut out.

Thanks for looking. I hope to have some new layouts posted soon.

Tired and sore

I am very tired today. Not sleepy tired but whole body tired. I ache all over. I have ended up doing nothing but watching t.v. Friday I ran all my errands in about an hour which is fast for me (YAY ME!) and did some cleaning. I did some very deep cleaning in the bathroom and put in new fixtures I purchased sometime right after last Christmas. (it takes me awhile to use new things once I buy them). Last night I was in pain. My right arm had extreme muscle spasms in my arm that went to the middle of my chest and it made it hard to sleep. I could not get comfortable. My arm and chest continued to hurt for quite awhile in the morning but I moved around a bit until I was just feeling sore muscle. So I was a total slacker today. I read, watched The Day After Tomorrow - which I saw in the theater but wanted to see again. I have decided that disaster movies are best seen in the theater and not at home. LOL! I then watched episode 5-8 of the first season of The Apprentice. A co-worker had it on DVD and lent me the first 2 to watch. Now I was watching Dante's Peak but came upstairs and got hooked into making an entry. B teases me because I like this movie and knows I will make him watch it if I can. He also teases that I liked Deep Impact too. After Dante's Peak I am going to watch the Avalanche movie that is on Sci-Fi. I don't know what it is with me and movies about natural disaters. Well I am off to watch some more t.v.

LO: No Fireworks (an old layout)

Here is another old layout of mine.

This one was pretty basic and simple. Red, White and Blue paper with a little bit of chalking.

I cut the title using lettering templates. The best lettering templates in my opinion are the Scrapagerz. I get mine from Gone Scrappin. The accents are pre-made and are from Paper Bliss. I like that they are handmade and usually 3-d.

The layout is 2 pages (8.5x11) that I stitched together when scanning.

Thanks for looking.

LO: Crash (an old layout)

Here is another old layout I have on my hard drive at work.

I used a lettering template for the title and created all the accents myself. As for the car I had a little help with modifying a pattern I had at the time.

It is a 2-page layout (8.5x11) that is stitched together in the scan.

Thanks for looking.

I like Wednesday nights aka T.V. Night!

Last night B and I watched Hildalgo. Well I watched it while B snoozed on the couch. Not a problem since he had already seen it. I thought it was a good movie.

The day was long. Luckily I got VTO (voluntary time off) and got to leave 1.5 hours early. It was so weird leaving work while the sun was still out and getting home while the sun was still out. I was thinking of running some errands but after downloading my emails I ended up reading. It was very nice and relaxing.

Wednesday night is good TV night for us. We watch Smallville (a favorite of B's) and the LOST. I really like LOST. B was thinking that they must be in some bermuda triangle and that sounds good to me but after watching the previews for next weeks episode and seeing the one tonight I told him that they are probably all dead and this is their afterlife. It will be interesting to see what the real truth is.

Tomorrow I have a very important interview with the managers of my manager. I better iron something to wear and get myself to bed. I am debating on whether I need more time in the morning or not. I work in a call center. The dress is extremely casual so I usually do not need much time in the morning. Tomorrow will be different.

Good night.

LO: Scrapals Retreat 2001 - title page (an old layout)

For awhile I had been posting my layouts in online galleries such as Scrapjazz or 2Peas. I have not done it recently and I have not done it for all of my layouts. I am still debating on if I should upload them or not. I decided for now to upload some old layouts to my blog (well at least the ones I have on my hard drive at work).

This layout is 12x12. I only scrap in this size for vacation pages. This is the title page to the Scrapals retreat I attended in 2001. Needless to say I have not completed this album. It is far from being finished.

You can view my online gallery at Scrapjazz - My Scrapjazz Gallery

I scrapped!!

Well not really but I did do a little bit. I exacto'd some letters for a title and matted them. I am hoping to finish a layout that I have had glued down for awhile (okay months) except for the journaling and title. I am hesitant about the journaling. I am using a pre-made/store-bought tag and I want to print right on it. My printer has been acting up and leaving dirty smudges on the paper. I had thought about printing on vellum and sticking the vellum on the tag but I may just go with printing directly on the tag and if it gets icky I will have to buy another package. right? LOL!

I did manage to get a few things completed and cutting out those letters was good for me. I am trying not to feel like I should have done more. I work 10 hours days so I am at work for 11 hours (this includes lunch). Add about an hour for the drive to and from work and I am only home (and awake) 3 hours a day. It is hard to acomplish stuff (for me anyways) and I hate using my days off to clean.

Well back to the grind. There are only 2 of us here at work today.

I am not good with lists

Okay. Something does not seem right. As of Friday, I had about 144 views to this page. I have not had anyone else visit yet my counter is now showing total views of 354. That tells me something is up. I guess it is time to change some of my links or something.

This weekend was another quiet weekend. I really need to find out why I am so tired all the time. Today we dedicated the twins and little Sammy at church. My whole immediate family went up (except B was not there and TJ disappeared the bathroom – very convenient and still refused to come up front). I tell you it does not appear that he will be a very enjoyable teenager. At least he ran up to me and let me hug him. He never complains when I do that so all is still good. After church we went grocery shopping and I came home exhausted. B made a wonderful dinner (Spaghetti ) and afterwards we watched Desparate Housewives. I think this may be a show we will watch regularly.

I finished reading Changing Habits by Debbie Macomber.

I felt it was a good book. It was a nice easy read. It is about 3 nuns that leave the convent. I found it interesting that one of the comments that was made in the book had to deal with Mary and Joseph having additional children. This is one of the topics I remember my mom asking the Priest (when we were Catholic) and the Priest was not very happy about it. From what I can recall growing up, Priests do not like their parishioners to ask any questions.

I must admit I am not good with lists. I did practically nothing on my list this weekend and ended up adding more to do because I forgot to list it in the first place. I am hoping that I will have my list completed by the end of this week. That is my goal and I will try to keep on top of it as best I can.

My to do list for Friday: For this week:

1) Clean the house (this will not get done I can tell you right now - LOL!) And it didn't. See I was right!
2) Organize scrapbook supplies and MK inventory (this is kind of like cleaning the house - this one room is a mess!!!)
3) Laundry would be nice - Yes is sure would be nice
4) Take car battery to auto store to see if they can recharge and hope and pray that is all it needs.
5) Take MK order to customer (did not get to deliver this weekend)
6) Connect my Aunt's computer
7) Dye my hair (hey is has been so long I am sure another weekend would not hurt). I found many silver strands this weekend. I usually do not notice
8) Exercise
9) Dinner with friends (this should be good for about 3 hours+ of my day)
10) Grocery Shopping
11) Renew libaray books (thank goodness for the internet)
12) Mail new customer order
13) Place new customer order
14) Mail thank you cards plus other cards I have sitting waiting to be sent
15) Make a deposit

I know there are other things I accomplished this weekend but for now I cannot seem to remember what they were. LOL! I guess if they were not on the list they were not important but seeing as all the things on my list are considered important I am really slacking.

It is late and I think I should go wash my face and head to bed. I have interviews starting this week and I need to get my sleep. Thanks for visiting. Goodnight.

My Kitties

B and I have 2 kitties. I think they own us instead of us owning them. They are very spoiled. I have one skinny cat that weighs about 7.5 pounds and a very chubby cat that weighs in at 15 pounds!!! We got them a year apart and from different places but they ended up looking alike. The vet commented the first time she saw them that they were a matched set.

This first photo is of Cairo (Skinny/Stinky). She has legs like a jackrabbit and we knew she would be a trouble maker and a jumper the first time we laid eyes on her at the Humane Society rolling around under the newspaper in her cage. We got her for B but she seems to have taken to me and follows me wherever I go. She will force herself to lay on me even when I don't want her to. She always gets her way.

The second photo is of Cleo (or Chubby/Fatso - You get the idea). I adopted her about a year before Cairo. I was at the pound looking for a missing cat and found Cleo. She was just a baby at 10 weeks but she was a huge baby. We just thought the age was wrong. Instead we were wrong. She is huge. It is funny that a cat this big refuses to eat anything but dry cat food. She hates canned food and will not eat people food except for the occasional can of tuna. LOL! I got her for me but she has decided to be more of B's cat.

There is so much more I could tell you about these gals but if I continue this post would go on forever! Thanks for looking.

Tired (as usual) and yet so many things to do

I don't know why I am so tired. Maybe because I force myself to stay awake late into the night when I should be in bed. Maybe this is why I keep thinking today is the 14th of October instead of the 7th! For example last night, I was running some utility programs on my system. Even though the first one completed late last night I started another one. I thought it was almost finished so like the idiot I am I sat and watched it. I was falling asleep right there and kept expecting to end up hitting my head on the keyboard. Then of course once I finished did I go to bed? Of course not! I restarted, went online, downloaded and answered some emails and I think I may have updated my blog template or something. By the time I went to bed I was so exhausted I do not remember anything after turning off the light.

It is currently lunch time. That means my day should sort of be halfway over. Friday is my day off and I am really looking forward to it as I always do but even though I have high hopes for doing a lot of stuff on that day I never seem to get around to it.

My to do list for Friday:

1) Clean the house (this will not get done I can tell you right now - LOL!).
2) Organize scrapbook supplies and MK inventory (this is kind of like cleaning the house - this one room is a mess!!!)
3) Laundry would be nice
4) Take car battery to auto store to see if they can recharge and hope and pray that is all it needs.
5) Take MK order to customer
6) Connect my Aunt's computer
7) Dye my hair (hey is has been so long I am sure another weekend would not hurt)

Updated (2:08pm) as I obviously forgot...(I am sure this list will continue to grow)

8) Exercise
9) Dinner with friends (this should be good for about 3 hours+ of my day)

I am sure there are many more things that I need or want to get done tomorrow or this weekend. Like crafty stuff such as crocheting Christmas presents (or anything for that matter) or scrapbooking or my goal of learning how to knit or working on any other various craft projects that are in various stages of completion and believe me there are many!!!

Cannot publish! Urgh!

I don't know if it is my network here at work or Blogger but I cannot publish this darn blog. Urgh! It keeps trying to publish and it keeps starting over. Add that to my profile never updating and it gets quite frustrating to send an update. It is almost 2 weeks since the last update so maybe my profile will update soon.

3:29pm LOL! And wouldn't you know it this post now published with no problems what-so-ever. Figures!

Changed colors...finally!!

Okay so I was finally able to get online and save changes without getting the dreaded 'Page not found'. I hate when the network is down at work and my dial up at home works better. LOL! Well I changed the colors to orange so they are not yellow anymore. I just need to make a few changes this week so it looks more like Halloween. As soon as I can find the time that is. It is already midnight and instead of going to bed like I should I am online fooling around. Well if I am going to make it to work tomorrow and be semi-coherant I better get my rear end into bed.

Goodnight.

oh oh...

Oh Oh. I did something to my template and ended up publishing it. I plan to change the colors to something else. I feel bad because I got the color idea from a different website that I visited recently and now it looks like I copied it. I think I need more of an orange color but whenever I try to post or update my network is not letting me. I did not even think it saved the changes. I wonder how long it will take for me to post this to my log?

Here is the page that I visited earlier. I think she did a great job of making it look great. I have been wanting to learn how to knit for awhile and I think I will get the book that she recommends.

Out of the Mouths of Morons

Here is a website I love to visit. If you click on the snapshot of the website below it will take you to the actual website.

Since my work is similar to what these gals write about it really hits home. Everyone here at work looks forward to the updates and usually we visit it daily to check to see if there are any. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.
