Out with the not so old...

It seems that now that I have a faster online connection I am not finding myself using it all that much. Maybe because I am on the computer all day and just don't feel like turning it on at night. Or it could be that this computer is so darn slow that it gets frustrating. Since my home computer is a Dell there is no way to update it. If we want faster, we will need to buy a new computer. But since the husband bought this thing the other day, it will be quite awhile before we can afford a new computer.

There was nothing wrong with the old one. It was only a few years old but I guess that does not matter when it comes to dumb video games and how they need to be in hi-def. Oh my, does this sound like a rant or what? I probably would have gotten over the idea of owing for the new TV but then of course we needed a couple of special cables each being around $50. Then there is the upgrading of the cable box which will add only $6 more a month to the cable bill but we already increased it by going with the cable internet connection. So now the husband has his hi-def and the wireless connection for his games and I guess I am just feeling a bit down at not having anything hi-tech and new of my own.

On another note, last night I watched the season premiere of Dr. Who on SciFi. I don't know what I thought about that show. I really was not that impressed with the episode and hope that they get better. I have not even seen the season finale from last season. That is on tonight well in half an hour, but on BBC America. I am looking forward to watching it, but what I really want to see is the finale of Torchwood. Now that is an awesome show!

finished

Today I graduated.

I have officially completed my training.

Well it was more like I was given my certificate of completion but it was more like an empty envelope with a letter stating that my certificate was coming in the mail. :)

I cannot belive I am finally finished. It feels good. Now I just have to concentrate on the degree I need for my job and after that...certification!

So even though I have finished my schooling, it was only the first chapter. I still have a ways to go and I am looking forward to it.

*tumble*

Today we went to run a couple of shopping errands. While leaving the first store I totally missed a step and down I went. If it were for the fact that there was a car at the curb in front of me, I probably would have landed on my face instead of my knees. The husband says he doesn't think anyone saw. I told him, dude, everyone saw! LOL! I do find it funny that once he helped me up and we walked to the car that we never even looked back at the store. Talk about embarrassing.

Now I need to work on my taxes. I really do need to do them but I am starting to feel a bit tired and kind of ill. I wonder if I am making myself feel this way because I really don't want to do my taxes.

This past week has been an extremely long week.

Work is going well. Nothing new to report about that. I do find my desk to be quite cold (I sit directly under a vent) and when I get cold I get sleepy. Add to that the fact that I stayed up later than usual this past week and by Friday it was so hard to concentrate, much less stay awake.

This past week also marked the anniversary of my Uncle's passing. I really do miss him.

It was supposed to have been turned on last Sunday (yesterday) but ended up being today. Then we find out that they only allow one cable connection to be active so the darn cable is plugged into the living room wall and snakes all the way across the house to get to the computer. I am not too happy that it will cost over $40 in order to get the cable connection to work in the bedroom. The cable company tells us we are eligible for free cable in the bedroom but we have to pay if we want to get it. I wonder if I can get the owner to pay to get the plug activated?

This past weekend was not a good one. At. All. Today was a little better. Hopefully by the end of this week all will be well again. :) I sure do hope so 'cause the stress is starting to get to me.

I am so behind on uploading my daily 365 photos and I am surprised that I even remember to take one each day.

I really have not been feeling all that well lately. I am looking forward to the time when I have insurance and can go to the doctor. I really do need to find out what is causing all my issues. I just know it cannot be all in my head like my prior doctor told me. Geesh! He sure was an idiot. Can you believe that when I complained about a prescription he had given me, he had the nerve to tell me that he did not give me the RX and it was all in my head. He said that since he did not have it written in my chart that it never happened. It did not matter that his darn name was printed on the actual RX. I really don’t know how he stays a doctor. I need to find me one that is not an idiot, that’s for sure.

Today, the B and I will be going to Target. Speaking of Target. I went the other day and was happy to see all the new scrappy stuff out on the shelf. What I did NOT like was seeing that they now carry the storage bag that I bought after Christmas and that it was $10 cheaper than the local scrap store ($15 less than the new scrap store). Kind of a bummer.

I did notice one thing that made me laugh. Last year or so I jumped on the Target $1 spot bandwagon and bought these plastic document storage thingies. They were all the rage on the message boards. I bought what I could and hoped that Target would come out with more. They did and they sucked! They were such poor quality. I still have a bag of empty ones in the closet. I notice that whenever something sells really well that Target usually will replace it with something a lot cheaper in quality. Well when I was looking at all the new scrappy stuff, I noticed that they had the original plastic storage thingies on the shelf. Of course, they are now more expensive than a mere dollar. Target knows what it is doing. They saw how big these items were and they are now selling them themselves for a profit. Very Greedy!

I think I am still trying to get used to B’s new schedule. I am SO used to us having Sunday off together. I am used to having Saturdays to get stuff done and then being lazy on Sundays. Now that we both have Saturday off together, it is throwing a kink into what I am used to. I did manage to get some laundry done and the bathroom is clean so it was not a total loss. Oh and I watched a movie that has been sitting here for weeks {Martian Child}. So now, we can send it back and get something new.

old

Getting old has sure been on my mind lately.

What with being exhausted and fatigued all the time and I am doing NOTHING that should be causing me to feel this way.

Then there are the allergies. I NEVER had them as a child. Not until the past few years have I began to suffer. Today I woke up in terrible shape. I barely made it to the store to buy some medicine. After a couple of hours, I started to feel better but it was enough to sap my energy for the rest of the day. Now I am starting to feel icky again and the medicine is supposed to last 24-hours.

Tonight, B made a wonderful dinner. I bit down on the tines of the fork and chipped my tooth. I am upset about it. I would expect this to happen to B but not me as my teeth are in much better shape. As I get older, I am starting to fall apart. I do not like it! Nope not one tiny bit!

Can you hear me now?

Hi.

It's me.

The one that seems to have just fallen off the face of the Earth. Is that even spelled right? Earth?

I wish I could tell you that I have been extremely busy with the most exciting of things but if I did it would not be truthful. I have been busy but mainly just going to work and then running errands afterwards. Nothing too exciting or out of the ordinary. Well that is unless you consider getting the oil changed in the car exciting.

I am tired. I don't know why I am so extremely tired. I have been getting more sleep than usual but by the end of the day, like now for instance, it is really hard to get anything done. I am so drained by the end of the day. It is really weird. I keep hoping that maybe my body will get into some kind of routine and I will get used to what ever it is and have more energy but I wonder just how long that will take.

Easter was good. Last Easter is when my Uncle passed. This year we all got together and it was good. I didn't really take pictures though. I don't think anyone was in the mood. Who knows...maybe it was I that was not in the mood.

I am dang tired!

This getting up early thing is SO not my style. This past week has been so hard for me when it has been time to get out of bed. I can say that I behaved and did get up when the alarm went off but I was NOT happy about it. Nope! Not one bit! I really hope that I feel better after the weekend. But who knows, I am so far behind in doing stuff I am sure that this weekend will just fly past.

Today I was pretty much all on my own (except for an hour in the morning). The gal who is helping me learn the job will be back at her own hospital on Monday. So now, I am all alone. There is a lot to do but the really detailed part has to wait until I go to the State’s training class. Who knows when that will be. I am wishing already that I had a laptop so I could take it with me while I am out of town. No computer or Internet for a week will probably drive me crazy. LOL! Once I am trained, I can then start to work on the 2-years of backlog that is sitting on the shelf staring at me every day.

At least the job can be entertaining. I tell you…this department is sure full of drama.

This past week, one of the gals walked around and told everyone that on St. Patrick’s day we were to bring green colored snacks. Not dishes or a meal, but just snacks. Someone posted a paper on the wall saying to bring snacks and a few of the gals wrote down their name and what they were bringing. Well that is when all heck broke loose. Apparently, if you put of a sign-up sheet that means it is a pot-luck. There are 2 sections in the department and the other section was not very happy about this. The manager of one section actually had a meeting with the section that posted the sign. I even heard someone mention HR. Then if that was not enough, the gals (who posted the sign) brought it up again the next day. I am so NOT getting into any drama at this job. I have had enough of that to last me the rest of my lifetime. So, I printed my name on the paper and I am bringing green Oreos.

Even on the weekends, I find myself waking up early and of course, I end up going to bed early as well. This is so NOT the norm for me. This job has changed me and it has only been 2 weeks! I have turned into the husband! This cannot be! LOL! I was always the night owl and I never would get up early unless I HAD to.

The husband has a new work schedule. He now has 2 days off in a row and instead of us spending Sundays together, we now will be putting up with each other on Saturdays. It was weird having him home 2 days in a row. Saturday we woke up early and actually went to Kohl’s early bird sale. We were there at 8am. All his doing mind you. I was shocked. We have never done that. It was fun. Then we went to breakfast, over 2 hours later!

Today I had the place to myself. It was a pretty lazy day around here. I cannot even remember what I did. I can tell you that I did NOT do all the stuff I really wanted to do today. Oh and you know what? I am tired.

The hospital is doing massive construction and there is just no place to park. Employees are not allowed to park in the parking garage in front of the hospital and there is just one small lot near the hospital. I had heard about the 'other' place we were to park if this small lot is full but never had to experience it until today.

I had to drive quite a ways past the hospital and past all the construction for the new hospital buildings. I found a spot and got ready for a hike. And a hike it was. Lots of dirt and the level of the dirt lot is higher than the actual area we walk on to get to the hospital. It is so far away there is a shuttle (well a golf cart) to drive employees to the hospital. I was not lucky enough to encounter the shuttle on my way. Once at the hospital, I then had to walk thru the construction site. The walk way is surrounded by chain link fence and leads to the door. It reminded me of all those construction sites I see on TV. I guess that isn't make believe.

The parking was not the only thing that did not go as usual. I was so not paying attention this morning that I left behind all my important papers for work (passwords etc).

Here's hoping that Wednesday is much better. Tomorrow is Wednesday, right?

It was a pretty chilly and windy today but I only had to endure it for the walk from the parking lot to the door. I did go outside for a bit of a break but was almost blown away so it was a pretty short outside break.

I spent the morning training with Deb and she left me alone again in the afternoon. I finally got access to the servers and was able to get a lot accomplished this afternoon. At least there is one section of the job that I feel confident that I can do. However, it is a very tiny portion and I would be concerned if I was not comfortable with it.

Went to the parents this afternoon after work and got to see their cute little puppy, which has grown so much in the short time since they got it. At least this time I got pictures. I hope to share those soon because they turned out really cute.

Well nothing else exciting to report…well I take that back. Tonight we had Chinese. Yum!!

First week down

This past week went by very slowly but yet quickly. Each night I would get home and would be so tired, I could not wait until bedtime. I think I slept only because I was so exhausted. By the time Friday came along, I was really looking forward to the weekend. Which is why I find it quite interesting that I am a bit anxious for Monday to be here so that I can do it all over again.

On Friday, I was left alone for most of the day. I had a lot to do so it did go by quickly. I cannot wait until I am more used to the place so that I can feel more at home. I cannot wait to meet some people so that I can have someone to each lunch with or even take a break with. The place is so busy that I am sure it will be awhile before any of that happens. What I have learned is that I am actually going to be THE Tumor Registrar for the hospital. Not just a helper to the person that is there. Once I am trained she will go back to her hospital.

I am not a morning person but if it means that I actually get a chance at finding a parking place in the one parking lot for employees then I guess I will become one. Each morning I have been diligent about getting up when the alarm goes off at 5am. So, on Saturday I was really looking forward to no alarm and getting to sleep in. So why is it that my body woke up at 4:30am? I don’t get it. My body has NEVER adapted that quickly.

I am hoping that once things get settled down I will have time to be crafty again. I did join over at LivePink . Pretty scary since it is more like a MySpace thing. MySpace is okay mainly because it is mostly people that have I grew up with and most I have not seen in over 20-years. But a new scrapping site? I always feel so out of place. I usually end up being the most unpopular person there.

February 25, 2008

It has been a long day.

The majority of today was spent in one room listening to a multitude of speakers and only the last hour was about benefits. Benefits that I will not even be eligible until June so it really was not necessary. I really have to say I did not learn too much from today. I now know the history of how the hospital came to be and a few other interesting history items but that is about it. I was able to have a quick visit with my cousin (who works in the pharmacy) and a friend from school (that is in the same department as I am). Those were definitely the highlights of the day.

I did find that I am scheduled for computer training tomorrow at 9am. If it were not for this class, I would have NO idea what to do after my orientation. No one has spoken to me about my hours or where I will even be working. If nothing is said tomorrow while I am at the computer class then I need to go and hunt down that information.

I did find out one piece of important info during orientation. Wearing jeans is definitely a no-no. Last week was just an exception due to it being Rodeo Week. So, since I had not yet found any pants to wear, I decided to go shopping after work. I had planned to go to a particular store which caters to my shortness (and size) but the discount store was next door so I stopped there first. I did manage to find a 3 pairs of pants (2 of which will need to be altered). I also found 2 bras and a pair of Converse. I paid less than $70 for everything and then headed out to my regular store. I really wanted a pair of black pants and I wanted a pair that I could wear immediately. I managed to find a pair and even though they are tighter than I am used to, I bought them. Can you believe that I bought one pair of pants (and 5 pairs of undies) and spent over $70? Ouch!

The shopping wore me out more than the orientation did. I don’t think I will have any problems falling asleep tonight.

Tomorrow...

I start my new job tomorrow morning. I really do hope that I am able to sleep tonight.

Tomorrow is just orientation so no 'real' work as of yet so I guess I really don't have anything to be nervous about. There should be lots of people there as there is only one orientation every 2 weeks for all the hospitals and locations in town. Maybe that is what is making me nervous.

I had hoped that a fellow student would be attending the orientation. I found out today that she will not be there. She was hired before I was but it appears that she may be getting the run around as she is disabled. They told her it would take 2 weeks to process what only took me one day. Something does not sound right. Hopefully it will all work out okay.

The weather was awesome today! 84 degrees! Hopefully tomorrow will be just as nice. I guess winter is over.

Now if I could only get rid of this cough...things would be perfect!

February 19, 2008

My brain hurts!

Today was quite exhausting. Who knew sitting in one position all day could be so painful?

I took the huge (15 pages/46 questions) coding final today. It took me about 5 hours (norm is 1-3 days). I did extremely well and I am SO happy it is over and done with. Tomorrow I have my last anatomy test and then I can fool around the rest of the day…um I mean finish up some extra paper work. ;)

I had a lovely surprise today. One of my fellow classmates (a very sweet older lady) gave me a Starbucks gift card. She had wanted to take me out to lunch to thank me for helping her with her coursework but since this is my last week, she got me the gift card. What a sweet and unexpected gesture. I will miss seeing her each day.

Four Targets later...

Last night B and I went to Target. While we were there, I decided to look at shoes to see if I can find some that were comfy and nice enough to wear to work. I found a pair but not in my size. No problem. I pass 3 other Targets on the way home from class so I decided to check them out after school.

I stopped at the Target by the college and they did NOT have my size. Then I stopped by the lovely newer Target by my old apartment. They had my size but only after I wandered down the wrong aisle. I also found another style that is pretty comfy but of course, they were out of my size. So, off to the final Target that is closer to my house. They did have my size in that other style. They also had my size in the first style of shoe I wanted. I should have just went there to begin with. Now that I have some comfy shoes…I really need to find some pants to wear. LOL!

School was good today. I had not planned to tell anyone (yet) about me starting work this next Monday but my instructor had me make an announcement. I think some people are not very happy about me finding a job. Some seem to think that this position (in a major hospital with people I have never met or heard of) was made especially for me. Yeah. I don’t think so. As of today, I only have my coding final and one last anatomy test to take and then I am finished. I am so relieved.

February 16, 2008

Hey everyone!

It’s time to kick off your shoes, put on your stripey socks and boogie down!

Guess who got a job?

Go on.

Guess.

Did you guess yet? Do you need a little hint?

Well let me tell you a little story.

Yesterday, while in the midst of taking a 26 page test (yes, you read that right – 26 and it is not even the final!!!) I received a call on my cell phone. Since I was taking a test, I could not answer it and the phone number did not look familiar so I did not worry. I was not expecting anything important since the person that interviewed me said it would be a week before I heard anything and her number is an out-of-state number. After the test, I listened to the message and it was the HR department offering me the position!!! As of yesterday, I am an employed gal! I start on the 25th! That was supposed to be the first day of my externship but instead I will be working. I went yesterday afternoon to fill out all the pre-employment paperwork.

Next week is going to be so busy! I have 2 days to finish my class work and one day to take the final (I hope it only takes one day since the school is closed Thurs and Fri). I have to make an appointment for next week for a drug test and physical (which I don’t have any record for my immunizations so I am a bit stressed) and then I have to go back and get my security badge for work. I am working at the hospital near my house but the HR department is all the way across town. Lots of driving will be done. All of this needs to be completed before my orientation on the 25th.

How weird is it that on February 27th of last year, I was pulled into a meeting and told I was no longer employed. A lot sure has happened in that year. I was very lucky that I really did not have to work and was able to take advantage of going to school. If it had not been for the layoff I would still be there, having my life sucked away (not that I would have noticed). I am really looking forward to what this New Year holds.
